Colleen Conway
Finding a little serenity at the edge of every day.
Colleen Conway was born in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland, surrounded by a landscape of mountains, water, changing skies and natural beauty. Her love of photography began there, among the Mourne Mountains and nearby Carlingford Lough, where dramatic scenery and shifting light were simply part of everyday life.
In 2001, Colleen emigrated to the United States and began a new chapter in New York City. It was there that she met her future husband, Timothy. They married in New York and later celebrated again with family and friends in Colleen’s hometown of Newry.
In 2012, New York gave way to another coast when Colleen and Timothy moved to Marina del Rey, California. During the next thirteen years, the beaches, Pacific Ocean and extraordinary Southern California sunsets rekindled Colleen’s love of photography.
She began capturing the colors and quiet moments around her, not as a professional photographer with elaborate equipment, but simply as someone who had learned to stop and look.
That remains at the heart of her photography today.
In 2025, Colleen and Timothy traded the Pacific Coast for the Gulf Coast of Florida, settling on Rocky Point with their two rescue pups, Scamp and Lady. Surrounded once again by water, warm skies and an ever-changing horizon, Colleen discovered an entirely new palette of sunsets.
Some evenings arrive in soft pastels. Others ignite the sky in brilliant oranges, reds, purples and gold.
No two are ever quite the same.
For Colleen, photographing them is less about creating the perfect image and more about preserving a moment that will never happen in exactly the same way again.
The Meaning Behind Sunsets & Serenity
There is something wonderfully simple about a sunset.
No ticket is required.
No reservation needs to be made.
No special equipment is necessary.
For a few minutes at the end of the day, nature simply puts on a show.
Colleen’s photographs reflect her fascination with those moments when the world seems to quiet down: sunlight moving across the water, clouds catching the final colors of evening, waves rolling toward shore, or an ordinary landscape suddenly transformed by extraordinary light.
After years spent living along both the Pacific and Gulf coasts, she has come to appreciate the peaceful rhythm these places provide.
A sunset marks an ending, but rarely feels like one.
Instead, it can become a small reminder that another day was experienced, another memory was made, and there is something profoundly fortunate about simply being alive, loved, and present enough to notice it.
That feeling became Sunsets & Serenity.
Photography Without Pretension
Colleen doesn’t describe herself as a professional photographer.
She doesn’t travel with cases of specialized equipment or worry about turning every photograph into a technical exercise.
Her photography begins with something much simpler:
She sees something beautiful.
And she wants to remember it.
Sometimes the best camera is simply the one you happened to have with you when Mother Nature decided to paint the sky.
Through Sunsets & Serenity, Colleen is beginning to share some of those moments with others, in the hope that a photograph captured during a quiet evening beside the water might bring a little of that same peace into someone else’s home.
